Smart phones are increasingly popular as mobile computer substitutes. A smart phone is lighter and easier to carry than a laptop or tablet. As smart phones become more powerful, many can browse the web using the same software as a traditional computer. Mozilla Firefox for Mobile is specially designed for smart phones with many helpful features.

Firefox can be customized to each user’s preferences with add-ons. For example, mobile users might want an add-on that takes advantage of their phone’s GPS. Add-ons from popular websites can make it easier to access Internet features with one click.

Sync allows users to access their bookmarks, history, and passwords from multiple devices. Buying a new device no longer means minutes of tedious input to make bookmarks match. Simply use Firefox’s Sync to make data on every device the same.

The mobile version of Firefox is designed specifically for portable devices. It works speedily and efficiently with all of the same capabilities as the desktop version.

Mozilla Firefox for Mobile can adapt to any situation. Numerous add-ons and support are available. While people who use Firefox on their traditional computer may benefit the most, the smart phone version of Firefox is suitable for everyone.

If you are new to the Internet or are just looking for a new browser you need to have a look at the new Mozilla “Firefox 4″. Firefox has amazing speed, new security features and a general cleaner look for navigation. They have pretty much revamped the entire look and it is much simpler, operable for those of us who do not like lots of ‘stuff’ in our faces and in general – one heck of a lot faster!

Having been an old Netscape fan, I was not thrilled when Mozilla came on the scene and took their place. However, I was no IE fan at all. None of that has changed. However, I found that virtually nothing was different with Mozilla Firefox and Netscape in the fact they both were faster and easier to operate than IE and I personally liked the overall screen look better.

However the big thing always seemed to be that Firefox was so much faster than IE. And just in case you are wondering, yes, I had them both on my computer. I have a gaming computer so it is not only big, but also fast. In side-by-side trials of doing virtually the same thing, I always chose Firefox over IE. It is a choice you will have to make for yourself, but you should definitely have a look at them both.

Firefox is a web browser that has been gaining popularity in the past few years. Firefox was first released in November of 2004 as an experiment through the Mozilla Project. Before the initial release to the public, the browser was named Phoenix. Since there were some trademark problems with a company that was already using this name, a different name for the browser had to be found. Firefox was then registered and trademarked.

The main thing that sets Firefox apart from other browsers would be the fact that it is open source. This allows users and programmers to make extensions for the program and work on the actual programing of the browser itself. For an open source program, Firefox is one of the most stable such programs. It was listed as a Tier One product by the American Management Systems in 2004.

Since then, there have been a number of updates to the browser. The option for live chat support and an updated layout engine were added in early versions. With the release of 3.5, Firefox became the most popular browser. Firefox 4 is the most recent version, with version 5 to be release sometime in 2011. There are several large updates such as a integrated sync and application tab that are certain to be in these future updates.

Obviously, one factor that plays into your browsing speed is your Internet connection. Choose a reliable provider like Hughes net to provide a solid and speed backbone to your internet endeavors. For those using Mozilla Firefox, though, there are also a few things you can do to speed up the browser itself. These tips come from Rick Broida at PCWorld, another great resource for staying up to date on the computer world.

Get rid of your old Java. Just as you don’t want to let coffee sit around on your desk, there’s no reason to keep around old versions of your Java Console. Each time you update Java a new version is downloaded, but the old version is not deleted. You can get rid of these by right-clicking on the Firefox icon and choosing “Run as administrator.” Go to the Add-ons list and delete all but the most recent.

Set Firefox to instantly switch to new Tabs. In the Tools menu, click Options, then Tabs. Enable the option that says “When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately.” This will save a few seconds each time you open up a new tab, but those few seconds can quickly add up.

Clear your Downloads list. If your Downloads list gets too long, you may experience freezing whenever downloading a new file. To combat this, just hit the Clear List button to empty it (you can open the list by pressing Ctrl-J).

A number of other reviewers claim that editing your about.config file can speed up the browser as well. For one example, see Mick Gill’s tutorial at MWD, “How to Speed Up Mozilla Firefox and More.” This option is recommended for the more computer-savvy users out there, but the tutorialis pretty straight-forward.

If you’re a Mozilla Firefox fan, share it with the world. And if the simple joy of sharing isn’t enough, join the Firefox Affiliates program and get points and win prizes.By creating a Spread Firefox account, you can put a Firefox download button on your blog or website. These come in a variety of sizes and shapes, with at least one sure to appeal to your aesthetic tastes. Similar to a cost-per-click ad, each time someone clicks your button, your Spread Firefox account will get Affiliate points. Mozilla offers ten rewards each quarter to random Affiliates with a certain level of downloads. Prizes range from video cameras and iPods to Amazon Gift Certificates. There are other ways to interact with Firefox as well. The best thing about the browser is that if there’s something you don’t like about it, chances are someone has already offered an add-on to take care of your particular needs. Browse through the add-on directories or the Support Articles to see if someone’s already taken care of your issue. If not, you can connect directly with a Firefox volunteer via live-chat to get personal help. Don’t let a small hang-up keep you from enjoying and spreading one of the greatest browsers around.

The Firefox 4 Beta is now available for free download, and Mozilla’s urging people to get the word out so they can successfully field-test it. Giving feedback is easy with the Test Pilot Feedback Add-on, where you tell Mozilla whether Firefox made you feel “happy” or “sad” and why. But what exactly is Firefox 4, and why should you care? One noticeable change is the look of the browser. This is designed to make sure you don’t lose track of the many options Firefox offers. For example, tabs (the feature that allows you to have multiple pages open in one window) are now located at the top of the screen. Switching tabs is also made simpler with the addition of a toolbar option. The menu itself is cleaned up, with all options now available in the Firefox buttonsimilarly to the Microsoft Office 2007.Privacy is also upgraded to eliminate some loopholes within web standards. Among other things, the new browser will give false values to functions like getComputedStyle() and querySelector. Before, these were used by developers to see how many times a user has visited a website, and where that visitor has been previously. Now Firefox users will be more protected than ever.A number of other changes in the coding and development of the browser make it more fluid and developer-friendly. WebSockets are a godsend for developers who want to integrate real-time online events, such as gaming or chatting. New CSS3 features like Transitions and Transformations add developers who want to add animations to their pages. Plus, a cutting-edge HTML5 parser provides support for the newest in internet technology, meaning no app will be left incompatible. You can be sure that Firefox will be adding new features as time goes on (they’ve already announced some), so make sure you get in on the ground floor by downloading the beta today.

The Mozilla Firefox browser is just the most well-known face of a foundation dedicated to an open and constantly updating Internet. The Mozilla Firefox team is composed of two parts: a small paid staff and a large, worldwide group of volunteers. Together, these two groups have been working together to create an Internet that is free and unrestricted in its ability to enrich people’s lives. In addition to Firefox, Mozilla also offers an e-mail client, Thunderbird. In addition to a Migration Assistant to help people upgrade from both older versions and other e-mail services like Outlook, Thunderbird has a number of other useful features to recommend it. Add people to your address book with one click, and avoid awkward mistakes with the handy attachment reminder. The Mozilla Foundation behind these two technologies was established in 2003, with the Corporation (the actual developing company) established in 2005. The organization is non-profit, and also assists in community efforts by using parks as codenames for its products. The codename for Firefox was Namoroka Park, a site in Madagascar for which Mozilla raised over 12,000. Similarly, Lanikai Beach in Honolulu was a codename for Thunderbird 3.1, and Mozilla is currently raising funds for Hawaiian sea bird conservation. As mentioned above, Mozilla also thrives on volunteer contributions. Users can do testing and quality assurance for Firefox programs, help translate content to different languages, offer support to users with questions about the software, and more. Mozilla’s Drumbeat projects are the newest face of the company, dedicated to keeping the Internet private but free for innovation. Users can organize for whatever cause interests them, whether it’s producing a documentary about the web or standardizing online privacy. Whatever your passion, there’s room for you somewhere at Mozilla.

One of Firefox’s most useful features is the ability to customize it to your own tastes by selecting different extensions. You can search for exactly what you’re looking for on the Add-ons home page, but there are a few that are just too good to live without. Here, for your browsing pleasure, are some of the most popular.

Adblock Plus: This useful feature goes beyond a standard pop-up blocker and eliminates scrolling ads, banners, trackers, and more. Why have them cluttering up your screen if you’re not going to click on them in the first place? You can also customize it to create varying degrees of permeability.

Personas Plus: This “skins” extension offers free access to more than 60,000 designs, from celebrities like Lady Gaga and Bob Marley to fashion brands like Vans and H&M. With over 24,000,000 downloads, this extension appeals to anybody looking to liven up their browsing experience.

No Script: This add-on won the “2006 PC World Class Award” and has been updated since then to provide continuing support. The extension blocks scripting from un-trusted sites, included cross-site scripting attacks and router hacking. If you appreciate the help, contribute to ensure continuing updates.

Firebug: Many users agree that this is a must-have for any web-developers using Firefox. It offers the opportunity to edit, debug, and monitor any web page for CSS, HTML, and JavaScript. The site http://getfirebug.com also offers support for older versions of Firefox, if you’re not willing to catch up with the times.

FlashGot: For anybody who finds themselves constantly downloading files from the internet, this add-on will end up saving you a lot of time in the long run. It gives you the option to download all the links on a page at once, along with video and audio clips.

As with any good program, Firefox has a bevy of tricks left over from developing and beta-testing. However, with Firefox, some of these tips will drastically improve your web-browsing experience. Others will just make you look impressive around friends.

Smaller icons. We’ll start with an easy one. Just go to the “View” button on the Toolbar, select “Customize”, and click “Use Small Icons”. Depending on how many icons you’ve got on your Toolbar, this can drastically free up your viewing window.

Keyboard shortcuts. You may have already discovered that Spacebar will page down, but did you know that Shift-Spacebar will page up? Some other combinations you’ll find yourself using are Ctrl-K, which brings you directly to the search box, Ctrl-L, which brings you to the address bar, and Ctrl-W to close tabs.

Complete web addresses. This shortcut deserves its own section. If you enter a site name in the address (just the part between the “www” and the “.com”), Ctrl-Enter will fill in the rest for you and automatically take you there. You can also do Shift-Enter for .net and Ctrl-Shift-Enter for .org.

Add keywords to bookmarks. By right-clicking on a site in your Bookmarks, you can go to Properties and add a keyword. From now on, just entering that keyword in the address bar will take you the bookmarked site.

Add keywords to searches. If you find yourself regularly searching a particular site (like CNET), right-click on the search box and select “Add a Keyword for this Search”. Choose something easy to remember like, say, “cnet”. Now, whenever you want to search CNET, type “cnet search item” in the address bar, and be brought directly to your results.

There are a number of other tips if you want to fool around in Firefox’s config files. If you’ve got the stomach for it, you can find more here.

If you’re browsing in a Firefox browser right now, try this. Open a new tab and type “about:mozilla” into the address bar. You should be brought to a red screen with an apocalyptic verse, similar to the Bible’s Book of Revelation. However, that’s only part of the story. You see, five different verses have been included on various shipping releases of the browser. Together, they collectively make up “The Book of Mozilla”, and they can all be viewed at the Book of Mozilla page.So what’s the story behind these passages, which all speak of some monstrous “beast” razing the countryside? The beast is thought of as a metaphor for Netscape Communications Corporation, which originally coined the term “Mozilla” as its dragon-like mascot for Netscape Navigator 1.0. The first verse appeared in Netscape 1.1 in 1995. It mentioned the coming of the beast and threatened blinking tags as a punishment for unbelieversa reference to the fact that bad HTML tags in early Netscape browsers would blink.Later passages mention Mammon. In the Bible, Mammon is a false god of greed and riches. In the Book of Mozilla, it refers to Internet Explorer, Mozilla’s most illustrious competitor. Interestingly, although the passages paint Mammon as a demon who ultimately tries to emulate the beast Mozilla, relations between Microsoft and Mozilla have improved. In 2006, the Internet Explorer 7 team sent a cake to Mozilla in celebration of Firefox 2, and again in 2008 for Firefox 3.There’s no telling what the next passage from the Book will be, or when, although the new Firefox 4 is a likely subject. Until then, the mystery will continue.
